Scholastic Aptitude Test Or Scholastic Assessment Test

SAT also known as Scholastic Aptitude Test or Scholastic Assessment Test is conducted by the College Board and is conducted several times in a year. This test is used by all the colleges and universities in the process of admission of the students. The score of this test is a parameter for the educational institutes to screen fresh candidates for admission. Generally this test is taken up by a student at least twice before zeroing on to any of the institutes. The students first take up the examination during their high school and then before entering into their graduation program. Students from all over the nation as well as globe appear for the test thus the level of competition is very high. The preparation for the test must be according to the level.

The structure of the test

Before starting off with the preparation of the test it is of prime importance for the students to get acquainted with structure of the test. The test generally tests the ability of the students in three categories. The first section in this test is Mathematics were quantitative ability of the students are being checked. The questions in this section have multiple choice answers. The next section in this test is critical reading. This section contains 3-4 sub sections. It tests the reasoning ability of the students. The next section of the test is writing, which mainly tests the proficiency of the students of the English language. It tests the students on their vocabulary and understanding of the sentence.

How to Approach

The first step towards preparation for the test is to work hard and smart as well. Since the pattern of e test is multiple choice questions therefore one has to do very extensive study of the subjects. For the writing section one has to put stress on sentence improvement, paragraph improvement, error identification, essay writing. For the reading section the students should apply themselves to read as many comprehensions they could during their practice session. They must practice problems from the guide books. For the mathematics sections accuracy level should be very high. Time management should be another factor that should be well taken care of by the students. For this purpose they have to pre determine the time they are going to allot to each of the section.

Mental Strength

Mental Strength is one factor that separates the participants from the winners. It does not come overnight. But it has to be built upon during the course of preparation. Due to the nature of the test it builds up pressure on the heads of the students. One must be able to deal with the pressure. This is one reason many of the students dread to take up this test. But in order to give a good start to the higher education it is necessary to take up this test.
