Approaching The PSAT Is Much Simpler Than Other Tests.

PSAT stands for Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test taken up by the students of junior year in high school. The format of PSAT is similar to SAT. But PSAT is a shorter version of SAT. It is bereft of the essay section that is there in SAT.

The score of this examination determines the eligibility of a student in the National Merit Scholarship. This examination is generally taken up as a preparation for the SAT examination. The score acquired in this test is often an indicator of how a student is going to fare in the SAT. The PSAT scores are not sent to colleges for the purpose of admission. The test is administered through the high schools across the United States. The test can be viewed as the stepping stone towards the SAT thus must be paid due attention by the students. The test format

The PSAT has got a format, which is very similar to the SAT. The test constitutes of 2 critical reading sections, 2 math sections, and 1 writing skills section. The test is based on questions with multiple choice answers. There is a writing section, which tests the grammar skills, diction and usage of English language. The other section known as the reading comprehension by the students constitutes of many passages in English. In this section various passages are given to the students. They are being asked to read the passage and answer various questions pertaining to that passage. This section also contains sentence completion questions. The next section of the exam is mathematics. The topics tested under this section are arithmetic, algebra, geometry, functions and statistics.

How to Approach

Approaching the PSAT is much simpler than other tests. The first step towards it is to acquire the proper study material. The study material can be acquired through various sources. The authenticity of these materials must be thoroughly checked. The prime step to realize success in these exams is to practice. One can join many of the coaching institutes that are doing the rounds. These coaching institutes provide with study materials as well as provide them with real time experience of taking up the test. The other most important thing is time management. They should approach the preparation of the test very tactically.
