The areas tested
The GMAT generally test an aspiring students on 3 main areas the analytical writing, quantitative aptitude and Verbal ability. In the analytical writing section one has to analyze an issue and an argument. The quantitative aptitude section consists questions pertaining to mathematics and calculation. There are questions of data sufficiency and problem solving. The verbal ability section is a test on the English language. It consists questions from reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and sentence correction. Thus one must be very aware of the pattern of the question paper before appearing for the test. Generally apart from the analytical reasoning section the rest of the sections have questions with multiple choice answers. Thus one should do an extensive study of the subjects as a part of the preparation. How to Approach The first step towards the preparation of GMAT is to acquire proper study material. The study material used should be authentic. They should contain question bank relevant to the test. The guide should also contain test papers from the past years examinations. It should also provide with sample question papers that are similar to the question paper of the examination. There are several coaching institutes that offer assistance for this entrance examination. The institute chosen must be genuine and should hold a good track record. One must always confirm the facts regarding any coaching institutes from the students who have already been a student of that institute. Section wise preparation
While preparing for the test one should always consider each section differently and must take differ rent approach to prepare for e ach section. The GMAT is available only as a computer adaptive format. Thus it is very important to learn this format before appearing for the test. In order score well in the quantitative and verbal section the most important thing is to practice. To crack the analytical writing section one has to acquire certain sets of skills that will help them to solve the problem pertaining to that section. The students must learn certain tactics that would help them to structure the essays. The time management is also a crucial aspect of appearing in this test. One must pre determine as to how much he is going to spend in a particular section. One must also decide how much time to spend on the areas of strengths and weaknesses.
